Hey Oppo,

What are everyone's favorite videogames? This excluded the Gran Turismo Series and Forza series, since everyone loves them.

I don't game much, but when I do, its either Toca 3 (pictured-$5 for PS2) or ArmA 2 Combined Operations ($25 for PC)

I've always been into Mario and Zelda games... recently I played through Super Mario Galaxy + SMG 2, Legend of Zelda Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword... replaying A Link to the Past these days after a LONG time.

I never got into racing games much, and I tried... NFS series, Gran Turismo, etc. didn't do much for me.

However... Mario kart is quite appealing and very fun.

I'm really fond of the Forza and GTA series but Ace Combat was the first game series I "mastered." I started out with 5 and moved onto Zero and eventually 6. Amazing soundtracks, awesome planes both realistic and fictional, and exciting missions throughout the games. Zero takes the cake though, it's the last of what's considered the "good" trio of AC games (4, 5, Zero). Spanish guitar mixed into the final boss battle where you're basically jousting with missiles against the final boss? Hell yes.

I never really got into that genre, I mostly stuck to car games and every once in a while a FPS. But I have a bunch of friends who play these sorts of games and love it, so I must be missing out

I used to love Ace Combat. I started with Shattered Skies (don't know if that's #4 or #5) on my ps2 and eventually got one of the newer ones for my PSP.

Shattered Skies would be #4, you should try finding a good used copies of the "sequels", you won't be let down.

Do you have any nintendo consoles? You ought to play some of them; even the portable ones are great (I still think Link's Awakening is the best Gameboy game ever).

I don't actually, just an old PS2 and a laptop that can barely handle the few games I do play. I could probably find an emulator pretty easily though.

Right now I've started playing Test Drive Unlimited 2 for the PC again. The game has it's faults but still, being able to drive around the islands of Ibiza and Oahu is pretty cool.

Still Half Life/Portal. Awesome gameplay, not too dark, and the protagonist is neither a bulked out angry dude not a scantily clad female.

FF6 as well just because it was the first RPG I played. Pokemon was a lot fun on the original gameboy. I never played the others.

There are a whole bunch of other games on my list to play, wind walker being among them.

Mario 64 and Minecraft are the only two games I have played in the last few years... I'm a VERY casual gamer ;) On the other hand, I was fond of the Command and Conquer / Red Alert series back in the mid to late 00's, what happen to that genre?

You can get banned but only if your caught. You can use the "universal launcher mod" to play offline.

Ah gotcha, might look into that then at some point. Although are they even checking still? I see on the community challenges boards people winning with an average speed of 64000+ mph.

They don't check but the game might detect it. there are some great mods.

I'm going to leap headlong into the obscure, here. My favorite game of all time was a game for the Commodore 64 called M.U.L.E. You participated in growing the economy of a colony on the planet Irata with 3 other players. There were 6 0r 12 rounds (depending on the level of difficulty you chose), and each round you were granted a plot of land to develop using robot mules made of Smithore. You could use the plot to make food, energy, Smithore, or Crystite, and at the end of each round there would be auctions to sell those commodities.

This all sounds kinda boring, but the game play was a blast. I usually went the full Ayn Rand on the computer opponents, starving them out and cornering the markets as much as I could. "Oh, you're out of food? Guess you shouldn't have made all your plots into mining operations." Unlike Monopoly, it ended after 6 or 12 rounds, so you weren't stuck playing it forever and there was a clear winner.

There was a NES version, but they futzed with it too much and it didn't have the charm or flow of the C64 or Atari versions.

The girlfriend was over for the last couple of days, so no real games recently. We did have a pretty good session of "Kentucky Route Zero" together though. Finished Act II
